We just bought a notebook for work in November. We went with the Gateway and we are very happy with it. I can't tell you how impressed I have been with the quality and craftsmanship in it. We chose the gateway because for presentations we can do video out to a tv, very nice feature. We have Dell desktops at work and I am disappointed with dell. Everytime I have a problem I have to cough up money to get it fixed. Here is an example of the difference, I had the system crash in Win 95 and I lost all my drivers for my Zip drive, dell did not send these with the system, I had to pay the 29 dollar software support fee to get them to provide them to me. My gateway came with all manual and software, I did not have to make floppies. Gateway also has lifetime software support as well as hardware. When I got my Dell I had office preinstalled, I went to install something off the disk and it was warped, I had never opened it. When I called service they told me I had to buy a new Office upgrade (290 bucks) after many calls they agreed to provide me with new disc, BUT I had to pay 29 dollar software support. I think dell is a victim of their own success, they have grown so fast something has to give and their service has been terrible. I can tell many more stories about this. We have 2 Gateways and 2 Dells. We will not buy Dell in the future because of lack of support. Brother had ordered a Dell at Christmas and after he got it wanted to change speakers, it took 3 months and 20 phone calls to do that, when I got my gateway I wanted to change speakers, they came overnight to me and I did not even have to pay freight, I had them the next day, no questions. I don't own any Gateway stock or dell for that matter. These are just my personal experiences FWIW. Might check out the Micron too, they have great support and the best warranty in the business.
