Rudi, I read this wknd in Wall Street and Technology..
I think that was the periodical, I read so many, but anyway it was some clown panning the coaxial-fiberoptic technology saying, to paraphrase, 'It's the biggest joke out there, coax-fiberoptic is great exept when you have everyone on the block ordering up movies which will gridlock the system.' To me this makes some sence in that over the phone lines, there is the direct line-server connection, but through a cable system, there isn't a direct connection on an individual basis, where as your line will be coupled with many others on the block. However, if the caching is adequate, a short delay to reload the cache, will accomodate everyone's needs. Any way it will allow far more data to be transmitted at each interval and that's the idea. The trick is to design a caching mechanism that will capture video data in certain quanta as to not retard the continuity.
The point is that this fella was talking out of his ass, OR trying to play down the technology so THAT brilliant people such as ourselves don't cash in on the IPO. And you thought YAHOO! would be big??!
