I think the desire for the catch must be greater than the fear of the water. I live in a highrise and have to be very watchful when I let the cats out on the balconies in the evenings for their brushing.
If a bird flew by, off they would go in chase with no thought of how far it was to the ground.

If cats always land on their feet, and buttered bread lands buttered side down, and you strapped the bread butter side up to the back of a cat and dropped it off, say the fifth floor, would it hover in space forever more? ( I read that somewhere LOL )
