Mmm... don't know if I can give you good answers but I'll hazard some guesses.

Think QNTM was first to do this.
Don't know how far SEG has implemented this - but probably well on their way.

WDC may have been the least adept at changing to MR and this product snafu likely cost them big time.

I certainly hope that the MR "thang" is more profitable! But price wars could change this in a hurry I guess.
