Apparently this thread has struck a deep chord on SI. I have
posted elsewhere in favor of public opprobrium for public
offenders, and I happen to think that is appropriate (though
I must add that others whose opinions I respect disagree).

I've also argued, I think defensibly, for the return of the
public stocks (I can even think of certain occupants of
a large, white mansion who ought to spend some time there,
say 30-40 years).

In spite of that, though, there's something here that bothers
me. Can't put my finger on it, exactly. I guess it's the
thin line between opprobrium and ridicule. I ask myself,
"Who am I to ridicule?", yet I answer frequently, "I'm
well qualified to ridicule THAT behavior." Still, the
question has some merit, IMO. Maybe disecting
behavior is a better way to think about it. <G>
Vivisecting. Cutting to pieces. That's ridicule,
so here I am full circle.

Does anyone else have similar feelings? If so, can you
state them better than I did? There's no question I'm
ambivalent about it.

I'm NOT trying to put a damper on the thread, just
raising an issue which nagged at me as I read through.
Read through LOL, I must add. Some of these things are
close to as funny as it gets! ROTFHAHA
