This has been Cisco's plan all along. Cover as many bases as possible with groups of engineers working on emerging technologies so they can get their foot in the door early or acquire start-up companies with new ideas.

Of course this requires good management and vision (the highest priority!) That's why Cisco has succeeded so well. It's rising stock price allowed it to buy the companies it did not develop in house.

Being an engineer I have noticed over the years that very few people of engineering backrounds make good business leaders. We engineers just get too hung up on tweaking the last electron out of something!

The marketing and management people tend to be on different wavelengths. Or to sum up, we need to stick to what each of us do best.

Cisco has excelled at this!

regards

Eric
