Hi, Raleigh
Your computer setup sounds awesome, your problems astounding! Just when I think I have just about made up my mind how to re-configure my setup, someone like you writes a post that almost scares me to give up trading this way and either (1) going back to Datek, or (2) going back to a real job. <g>
I don't know what I'm going to do now. I want to keep my two pc's networked together for obvious reasons, and I want to have dual monitors on one of them, and I want the frame connection on one of them, ISDN connection on the other. But, especially with the miserable way World Com seems to handle things, and because there are no reliable networking techs available to me here, I honestly do not know what to do. This is awful.
Just think, unlike you, many (most?) traders are not computer experts. Also, you were working last week all day and half every night trying to get your system setup properly. Had you been able to study the market for that amount of time and just trade normally, you would have a nice profit and maybe a life right now.
I want to make a profit and have a life. "Trying" to set up computers and peripherals is not my idea of fun. That's why I retired from my business in the first place, to get away from such responsibilities. Now I have it all over again.
By the way, speaking of World Com, another member sent me a private email today concerning World Com's less than adequate performance. Wishing to maintain that member's confidentiality, but also realizing his comments might be of great interest to members in my situation (contemplating the frame connection), please allow to post his comments in their entirety without disclosing the writer's name.
.........<COPIED AND RE-POSTED FROM AN EMAIL:>.........
"After reading your post on SI regarding Worldcom. I thought I would share a similar experience. It took approximately 50 calendar days to set up, from first contact to being live. Not being a technical person made this process even more difficult.
After attending the Cyber Broker seminar in February I ordered the frame shortly thereafter. After being put through their "application" procedure and "credit approval" process it took another 3 weeks for service. During this entire time I NEVER received a phone call from the company to update me on the status. I was calling weekly to push the process along. Very poor customer service. If I wasn't constantly calling I would think it could take much longer to get installed
I should also mention it is up to you to coordinate the the actual install with the local phone company. This also took a dozen phone calls and many hours of frustration to find the right people to speak to.
After finally getting installed, I contacted CT to get the software installed, they then informed me that I needed some additional cable.
Overall, I have been pleased with the service and product at CT. However, their assistance with getting the frame up and running was NON-EXISTENT-very disappointing.
While for the most part the connection has been excellent, I need to mention that the frame was down for an entire day this week (Monday). The company has indicated that this type of disruption is rare, but one down day out of only 20 is a fairly high percentage in my mind-make sure you have a back-up.
If you have any questions for an existing frame user-let me know."

The original writer will surely recognize his remarks above. Thank you for your valuable and most interesting commentary. I am sure many S.I. members will appreciate your sharing your experience.
Needless to say, I think this is getting to be quite a mess. Because of the complexities and because of the lack of support from various parties involved, I, for one, am not to optimistic at this point. I may have to just think about this whole situation and decide in which direction I will go. I certainly have no intention of sitting up nights reading computer books and "hoping" things will work out.
Raleigh, thanks for your info and I sincerely hope you get back to trading soon. I don't imagine I'll be trading here until I figure out what to do with this mess. And that makes me mad as hell. Maybe I'll call the cable company and see if they ever heard of cable modem yet <g>.
Or, I wonder if I could place 20-40 trades a day through Steve Goldman. The old phone call sounding sooooooo much easier now.
