Maxwell, Re:K6-3D, Katmai etc.

Sorry Maxwell. I think you're seeing the trees and missing the forest.
One thing you can be sure of is that when Intel releases Katmai, there will be many many software developers supporting it than the K6-3D, and there will be many more titles available for it than for the K6-3D. In fact, I would not be surprised to see AMD revamp their instruction set to Katmai's once that is released. And you can safely bet that Microsoft will have all drivers available for Katmai before its release.

If its performance you're after, I suggest you go look at an Alpha machine or something but if you need an indication of a products success, then along with performance, you better look at other factors too. AMD investors have learnt all too painfully over the years (or have they??) that performance is just one of the factors driving a product's success.

I'm sure you understand the risks inherent in supporting an instruction set different from Intel's.

Best Wishes,
- MJ
