You are missing the point. A drill is a drill is a drill. Forty years ago everyone used very slow speed drill, with foot pedals, then high speed drills came along. What was the advantage, they both still drilled the tooth. However, it did it more efficiently, was kinder to the tooth and before long everyone was using high speed drills. Well, now lasers are available. If they cost $40 instead of $40,000 everyone would have a couple of them. Patients would love it and so would the DDS. But they don't cost $40. And dentists complain that it is unnecessary. What they are really saying is that it would be great to have if it didn't cost so much. So the issue isn't do I need it the issue is do I want to spend $40K. Clearly it is a great tool to have in our arsenal.
