It is. 40GB fully non-blocking in a 19-inch rack-mountable box. And it will do OC-48c. The "c" stands for "concatenated" which means that
it will handle the full 2.5GB in a single VC, as opposed to the OC-48STM-16 provided by the GX-550, which allows only for 4 622MB VCs.


Dennis, it is what? I understand it is 40Gb/s non-blocking. But, if the base configuration is 10Gb/s, as per the press release, this leads one to believe the only way to get to 40 is by serially connecting 4 of these together. The implication here is that there are really 4 discrete loosely coupled 10Gb/s switching matrix's, and so latency between them would not be nearly the same as a single full 40Gb/s switching matrix.

I know that this is the way ASND can claim 100Gb/s with the 550. But its really just a 25Gb/s switch. I don't believe many customers actually use the 100Gb/s configuration (or FORE's 40Gb/s???) because of these latency issues.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.
