"It is possible to be a rational and educated Christian,
but it is a difficult path."

How would you know X? You've never been a Christian, or for that matter real rational or .....! Thus far, you have only experienced a pagan "rationalism" that strips you of your spiritual essence. Pagan "rationalism" is simply the conclusion of man's efforts without the grace and revelations of God.

I travelled the path of pagan "rationalism" and experienced its glories and ecstasies. They are mere delusions and never address the eternal consciousness man. Pagan "rationalism" is nothing but man attempting to gain glory and immortality through the praise and backslapping of other men. Pagan "rationalism" never deals with the debilitating darkness of man's sin and incompleteness.
If man is only matter, how is that his dreams penetrate beyond the physical universe? Why does man have a sixth sense that points and continuously suggests the eternity of his soul--life beyond his physical being?

I've traveled your road and found a locked door at the end. Its rationalism was ultimately irrational, and its promises empty.

The road of Christ, on the other hand, leads to an ever greater joy, righteouness and peace. It promises life and gives you life! It promises righteousness and gives you righteousness! It promises reality and rationalism and gives you reality and rationalism!
Jesus is your creator and His death on the Cross completes your creation through faith. There is more power in the Cross of Christ than all human effort combined. To tap into this power you simply need a humble and contrite heart. It's strange that those who are wise in their own conceit refuse, an anti-scientific fervor to ever test this simply hypothesis of joy and life.

I travelled your road and found it wanting, why not try mine--Jesus Christ?
