Tom:

When I did my DD on the DD sector awhile back I did some quick perusals of interesting tidbits.

TDK is mentioned as a GMR supplier here:
techweb.com

And this one says WDC had qualified TDK as a MR supplier early on:
techweb.com
(o how quickly things have changed (and as you correctly pointed out) - APM all gone from that Sep 1, '97 list)

I once thought that WDC's use of old technology was a smart move. Now I am not sure. Too many things changing too fast. Then again he who outsources a lot of things can't do much about it...

But still think there are plenty of rabbits in the hat for WDC.

As to profits by the fall wow! I'd be happy and I do know things change fast but... I'd be happy with profits in the Dec q. But first someone needs to tell Maxtor, Fujitsu et al to go easy on the cap. exp. guys. Those with smaller market share can only play so aggressively with the big boys for so long. After awhile if those little guys are not making some good profits they will have no finances to use to build new facilities. But then again their parents are big (though hurting overall I guess).

Shane. (ay caramba - knows nothing about the SAE in TDK/SAE and is really used to seeing TDK as the maker of blank cassettes...)
