Gary,
I agree with you that at first glimpse, "opportunities for ASND to
get bought are drying up." However, the purchases of Livingston and
Yurie by LU may be a prelude, background move in order to setup
a possible future acquisition of Ascend in much better term or fit.
Don't forget that we are dealing with well seasoned, extremely
competent LU management here, and I am sure that they are at least
several levels above showing a first hand move. This in contrast
to many of respondents in this thread who seemed to draw the
conclusive statement without considering deeper level consequences.

Anyway, I enjoy your in depth discussions about networking technology
and hope that you continue on with informing less network centric people
like me.

(ps) "If not LU then it's going to have to be a telecom manufacturer
which would be death for ASND in my estimation." --May be, but how
would you feel about it if one of the manufacturer turns out to
be Motorola? (just my speculation since MOT has been stagnant in
many areas and with their experience in telecommunication, semiconductor, and ties with telecom companies, they might look into
ASND as a growth foray into data/voice network.)
