You have been watching to many made for television movies IMO. Rural America is not made up of a bunch of white supremacists and militia movements. Once again you have taken a very small minority and assumed the place is overflowing with them. I would certainly feel as safe walking door to door in Oklahoma as I would walking door to door in Dublin.
It looks like today was not a perfect day in your future paradise.

Christine, I have been to Ireland, granted it was 15 years ago. I liked the place allot. It wasn't a paradise though, as you seem to believe. I much prefer living here in America. Contrary to you, I am VERY proud of this country and what we have achieved as a nation.
It's no accident that the Internet was launched here by a few bright college students. America still offers the greatest opportunity on earth for achievement. No matter what your color of skin or national origin.
The U.S. is not a declining country. Yes, we have our problems, but the influence of America on the rest of the world is growing not declining. It was only 8 years ago that the Berlin Wall was toppled. Freedom and the concepts launched by America of representative democracy are being embraced worldwide. You have to be blind not to see that.
No doubt about it, there is still waste in the military. To it's defense I will say at least the military budget has been cut by billions in REAL dollars over the past 7 years. Name me one other major government expenditure which has actually been cut in real dollars?? Shoot! Name me just one major government program which has been cut to match the inflation rate?
A couple of years ago the Republicans, led by Newt, tried to simply slow the rate of growth in medicare to triple the inflation rate, and the Democrats went on a dishonest media scare blitz not seen before in history. The major news media were also willing accomplices in this fear mongering. They purposely scarred a bunch of elderly people into believing that the medicare system would wither and die if we didn't spend more than triple the inflation rate on it. And that was counting the increase in the elderly population demographics.
Waste and fraud should be weeded out of all government programs. The military is no exception, but jeez, can't we at least slow the rate of growth of these HUGE entitlements to match the inflation rate?
