Scott - Re: "How much cost could an enhanced FPU possibly add to
a sub $100 chip? Does anyone know? "

Maybe you should re-phrase your question to: "What would it cost NOT TO HAVE AN ENHANCED FPU on an x86 CPU?".

The answer can be determined by examining the success of the Cyrix and AMD chips vis-a-vis their competitor, Intel.

Most customers choose to spend the extra money to but the BEST CPU as opposed to saving a few lousy bucks just to end up with an inferior CPU.
