Caliper is a company with fascinating technology. I am on its Scientific Advisory Board. It is not public yet. However its technology is minimally competitive with that of Affymetrix, if at all. It moves and mixes solutions in nanoliter volumes and can run solution assays at equilibrium that just cannot be done on chips but it also cannot do everything that AFFX can do on chips. Both companies are leaders in their fields. Its Website calipertech.com
