Greg,

I don't know that they are blind, merely incredulous -- they can't believe what they see. Perhaps they're black and blue from pinching themselves so much.

More seriously, unless one is actually researching the stock using an instrument such as this thread for assistance, how would one know that DELL <> GTW <> CPQ, and in what ways? How would one know, that while other companies may be suffering from the effects of channel-stuffing, DELL is not impacted? How would one know that the Asian economic weaknesses benefit DELL as opposed to hurt it? I could go on at some length, but just one more: How would such a person realize that DELL is not just one more corporation like every other with a management like every other?

If one's major research tool is Baron's or WSJ, when one
reads a negative article on DELL, one of its competitors, or the industry, how can one logically evaluate the argument? How does one know that a buying opportunity is approaching? IMO, it takes a lot of research to keep abreast of and evaluate market developments for any of the high-tech companies. A thread like this one provides a central repository for the research, ideas, and due diligence of dozens (or hundreds) of people.

Corollary: if one is actively researching and doing due diligence with the aid of an instrument such as this thread, I believe that the argument for portfolio diversification is seriously weakened. (Although I am not as convinced as Kemble, I am tending in that direction)

And IMO, since hi-tech is where the future is, and the source from which most of the market gains will derive, I choose to allocate my financial and temporal resources* to this field.

* Note that this thread has > 40,000 posts!

DELLish, 3
