Hello Curtis,

> Extreme Vision--?? Visionaries ?? Implementors ??

;-)

My personal perspective ... there are those who can see what's obvious, and then those that have "extreme vision" that see the deeper reasons that set the course of the future ...

I agree ... however I believe that everyone will agree that although Microsoft "contribute[s] directly" to the Internet they will normally look to others for the direction that they should move. They are not "visionary" except in the sense of using someone else's vision ... ;-)

I agree that Vint is an amazing thinker ... I got to see him speak at JavaOne last year. Do you know if he has anywhere that he regularly publishes his work? I haven't found anywhere lately ...

As for extreme practicality I also agree ... it seems the successful companies have a long term vision that is based on reasonable analysis, but that they implement in reasonable steps making corrections as necessary. I like LVLT because they fill a need that I see developing in a longer term vision of the uses of IP networks and the Internet.

I did not intend for this either. And from my perspective George is simply *one* person whose work I track. I think he is a good thinker. I respect your opinion and was not asking for you to justify it ... I wanted to honestly broaden my list of "folks to learn from" ...

What I have learned from working in this industry is that LVLT is not the visionary, but that a couple of people inside LVLT are the people with vision ... or they know how to listen to and act on vision from the outside. I've been investing in high-tech companies based on the employees that I can locate that have a clue about what's happening, and going to happen, in their segment of industry.

Can you help me with that last sentence ... I'm not sure what you mean?

I've been in CSCO and LU for a long time ... looking at QWST and LVLT over the last four months ... I should have jumped in, but the timing for me just wasn't right. I'm also following other types of infrastructure of the Internet in the way of services. Who will provide the next layer up in the Internet? Whose going to produce the technologies that people will use on all this bandwidth that is being installed? For example I bought RNWK quite a while ago after following, and using, their technology ...

I appreciate the response ...
