The 256K L2 cache built in to the next generation Katmai will run at full processor speed - >500 Mhz. That speed will accelerate performance and make up in part for the smaller L2 cache, especially for loops that fit within the 256 Kbyte size. At this time, I'm not sure if the L2 cache controller will support a "slower" off chip secondary L2 cache - essentially an L3 cache. Paul
