Check out the April 30th issue of the New England Journal of Medicine. There is a correspondence (pg. 1316) about a 35 year old woman who developed congestive heart failure secondary to endocardial fibrosis after taking 10 mg fenfluramine three times a day and 15 mg phentermine once a day for 5 months. After 3 months she lost weight but discontinued the anorectic drugs, reporting fatigue, cough, chest discomfort, and exertional dyspnea (shortness of breath). A heart biopsy confirmed extensive fibrosis and collagen but no inflammation. The authors (from Utah) say that these findings strongly resemble the valvular lesions reported in Connolly's (Mayo Clinic) report. Fortunately, there was no mention of Redux of IPIC or AHP.
