<DO we see a common denomination here? "Does not use a date field for any function"> <Panasonic Product Chart for Year 2000 compliant: Click on Product List:> panasonic.com ______________________________________________________________________
WHOOPS Here's a Panasonic problem I came across when I was researching Y2K failures for medical devices: (I didn't include this in my medical device report cause I was only looking for specific, documented medical device problems). However this was in response to a request by healthcare sector.: ______________________________________________________________________
Panasonic Company Statement (24/11/97): Year 2000/Millennium issues
The majority of Panasonic products do not feature a calendar/date function and therefore the question of Year 2000 compliance does not arise. This statement covers a wide range of products including, for example TV, Audio, Telephones, Answering Machines, Printers, Microwave Ovens, Computer Monitors, Copiers, CCTV Cameras / Monitors and Vacuum Cleaners. Equipment in this category will be self evident to the user.
Some Panasonic products have a year inclusive date/calendar function for the purposes of recording or printing the date. This category encompasses, for example, Camcorders, Video Cassette Recorders, Telephone Systems and Fax Machines.
With the exception of those older models of fax machine listed below, the calendar runs past the Year 2000 to various end dates determined at the time of manufacture according to technological constraints and anticipated equipment life.
The date stamp function on the following fax machines runs out on 31st December 1999. This would prevent deferred transmissions set to take place on or after 1st January 2000 and affects displayed/printed dates subsequently, since the first two digits of the year, i.e. "19", are fixed and preset.
UF-400/UF600 UF-440/UF640 UF-620
With the above exceptions, no problem is therefore expected with this category of equipment and Year 2000 compliance may be automatically assumed.
The question of Year 2000 compliance for Panasonic computers is dependant on the hardware (including it's embedded software the BIOS), the operating system and the application software. For all Laptop PCs manufactured up to and including 1996, the system date will revert to 1984 on the 1st January 2000. This will require the date to be set manually, after which the year will increment correctly. We suggest that any questions relating to the software installed on the computer are addressed to your supplier.
We trust that the above information will prove sufficient for your investigation, however, should you feel in need of further assistance, please contact us by post, fax or E-mail at any of the addresses shown.

P.S. Sire, you do a disservice to society in minimizing this problem. If you really want to help ... find out where the problems exist so people can become aware and start fixing the problems now, instead of waiting until failures occur and problems cascade into other areas. |
