They are definitely a "For profit" organization.

As you know, most major wirehouses are also market makers, and
they are all interested in making money. For me to say they do
not collaborate would be inappropriate, as have no proof. However,
IMO, I DO agree with you. I believe they do collaborate at times.

However, I also believe they DO NOT collaborate against the average
public investor. Many notes I read on various boards make it sound
as if a market makers are out to snare the guy doing 100-1000 shares. I seriously doubt this occurs in any of the houses, other than the
"Blinder-Robinson" type houses... but, IMO, they are not really trading stocks.
