That's a highly individual decision, depending on many factors such as age, income, savings, family obligations, lifestyle, risk-tolerance, and the purchase price.
My caution against betting the farm is a reaction to the recently-discussed gorilla investment style of concentrating one's investments in one super stock. I fear that this approach taps into one's greed in a way that could blind one from making correct decisions.
Keep in mind that if Allen's hypothesis about WIND becoming a gorilla is true, you don't need to bet the farm. Just imagine how well off you would be if you had owned 100 shares each of Intel, Oracle, Cisco, Microsoft, Compaq, and Dell since they went public... |
