I am a full-fledged digital camera fanatic now.

I bought an Epson PhotoPC 600 at Office Depot this weekend for $499.00. It is a nice camera to start off with and the resolution is 1,024 X 768 (which is 786,432 pixels per image). Not quite megapixel, but not quite the cost of a megapixel either. The Kodak DC210 is selling for $799.00.

The Epson has 4 MB of built in flash memory and a CompactFlash port as well. I was thinking about the Casio QV-700, but this only has VGA resolution (640 x 480) and an inferior LCD screen. The Epson has a sweet LCD screen that is crystal clear with a high refresh rate. In the highest resolution it holds 7 pictures so I will upgrade with a Sandisk CF card soon. Office Depot sells only Sandisk products (upto 20 MB). The sales person told me that interest is really starting to build. They didn't carry Smart Media cards although they had Olympus products there. Surprisingly, they sell Intel Miniature Cards although only a real clunky Hewlett-Packard camera uses this storage media. Go figure ?!

I am very satisfied with image quality and will primarily use the camera for family photos archived on my PC. That way I can e-mail photos to my in-laws in Europe. The printer technology has not quite caught up to the refinements in digital photography in my opinion. The only draw back I see is the write to disk time is about 12 seconds. Thus you really have to plan your shots wisely.

The Epson manual recommends Sandisk or Simple Technology (Lexar) cards for memory upgrade. That is the good news.

Just wanted to let everyone know the above information. The camera is alot of fun! I used it all weekend!!
