Ben, I like your work. Perhaps we should consider a merger. <g>
I feel honored to be the first to comment on your portfolio. I hope you and others will also look at my Roaring 20 portfolio which combined a number of growth and value plays largely in internet stocks and electronic commerce, but also some highly recommended networkers and the odd chip maker (anathema to me, generally speaking). (I am sure you have noticed the thread by now.)
Random comments: Ameritrade is a symptom of the current speculative bubble. In the long run a poorly managed discount brokerage like this will run into a brick wall of dissatisfied customers, declining demand, and probably litigation. Have you read all the Ameritrade horror stories on SI?
NSCP- short term overvalued but a buy and hold in my book. A solid statesman in the new breed of companies.
ONSL - could be a home run here, I would never rule it out. Key will be to watch this whole sector and get on top of new ideas for web selling (& related stuff) that we haven't even thought of yet.
CDNow - Is an obvious short. If it doubles from here, short more.
You'll have to explain some of the others to me.
Nautica - are they the ones that make the high end clothing? Nice stuff, I see the company is earning a lot of money, why do you think this will continue...they didn't just set up a new web site did they? Or are you anticipating? Might be good, higher margins than J. Crew but it's the same business and they can grab market share. Maybe if you & I make money on this one we can strut around in all the latest Nautica sailing Gore-Tex or what have you.
Good luck Ben, maybe we can work together, I remember you from liking SEEK so much (I thought too much)...turns out you weren't wrong!!!! Still think there will be consolidation in these internet stocks but then again as all of them form relationships with Telcos and Quicken and etc. etc. etc. they are becoming major forces in media, mass marketing and just about everything else so are the valuations really that insane and do these companies not now have a permanent foothold in corporate America?
Remember, I am the first one on SI to mention GNET, and I selected it for the Roaring Twenty portfolio! |
