. I think the mistake was insisting that the browser be given exclusive rights by EOMs. That might have been a little over the line. No, I think that is way over the line. This put real teeth into the DOJ, and I think it's a practice that must not be allowed to continue in any form. If they told Compaq that they could not sell Windows if Compaq offered any other OS, it would be the same thing. It stops the competition cold. MS made the mistake of selling IE as a separate product then requiring vendors to use it. They will not repeat that again. The DOJ/states can not be allowed to stop Win98. It is just another product like any other company releases. The funny part of the states case is that they can only stop release in their respective state, not a way to keep the constituents happy.
