GM, Toko, Tom, all A thought (of sorts) on sources of future demand.
I was talking with a friend recently who is fairly computer literate, but not exceptionally so (a 65 year old doctor). He just had a roll of film developed by a company in Seattle which doesn't send back prints--they post the pictures on their Web site, then you come in and ftp them back to your computer. You then print them out, send them via email to others, or, if you have your own web page (he does, through an ISP), you post them, and tell your friends and family where to get them. The only drawback, he says, is that his 2.1 gig drive isn't big enough to hold very many of color pictures. He could off-load them onto his ISP, but that just shifts the storage demand. This kind of thing will only increase, IMO. But he is looking to upgrade his drive soon (he was shocked to hear how little so much storage costs now).0
What happens when people start posting their home videos?

Whether these things will happen fast enough to make a difference in the coming year or not, of course.... |
