Glenayre Technologies Goes Live With Full Suite of Oracle(R) Enterprise Resource Planning Modules Oracle Consulting Services(SM) & Price Waterhouse Successfully Conduct 'Big Bang,' 5-Site Implementation CHARLOTTE, N.C., May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL - news) today announced that Glenayre Technologies Inc. [Nasdaq:GEMS - news], the $450 million global provider of personal communications infrastructure and products, went live April 6 on a full suite of Oracle(R) manufacturing and financial applications across five Glenayre facilities.
The Glenayre locations involved in the Oracle launch include the corporate headquarters in Charlotte, N.C., manufacturing plants located in Vancouver, British Columbia and Quincy, Ill., and facilities in Atlanta and Blaine, Washington.
The company deployed more than a dozen Oracle(R) Applications including manufacturing, supply chain planning, financial and project costing modules. The project, which is planned to eventually phase in users across Europe and Asia, included implementation of a 300-gigabyte Oracle(R) database and was deployed using Oracle's industry-leading Discoverer/2000 and Developer/2000 toolset, as well as Winframe technology.
Using Oracle Applications, Glenayre anticipates gaining significant efficiencies by eliminating data redundancies, substantially decreasing the amount of time needed to assimilate new business lines, generating savings by Year 2000 compliance, reducing inventory, improving customer service, and closer relationships with vendors and trading partners, and notably reducing the total cost of ownership.
''We now have an integrated business systems foundation that better prepares Glenayre for future growth,'' said Glenayre CEO and president Gary Smith. ''We are extremely pleased with the performance of Oracle Consulting and Price Waterhouse -- both companies worked with Glenayre's staff as one team, delivering excellent project management.''
Mats Gerschman, senior vice president of operations and manufacturing for Glenayre, said, ''The software rollout, which impacted more than 500 Glenayre associates, successfully concludes an eighteen-month-long, joint project management effort by Oracle Consulting, Price Waterhouse and a dedicated group of Glenayre employees.'' He added, ''The team implemented a wide range of mission-critical manufacturing applications that enables Glenayre, for the first time, to achieve a company-wide standard for manufacturing processes.''
After a two-month search, Glenayre chose Oracle Consulting and Price Waterhouse based on their resources and experience in business systems implementation for high-tech companies. Glenayre selected Oracle Applications in a competitive win over Baan and SAP to replace the ten- to fifteen-year old legacy software that was severely limiting Glenayre's capacity for future growth. Additionally, Glenayre chose Oracle for its flexible and modular business solution as well as its proven Application Implementation Method (AIM).
''Our objective was to build a world-class infrastructure using state-of-the-art database and management tools, coupled with a comprehensive application suite,'' said Greg Hoogerland, vice president of Information Services. ''We've succeeded in creating a business system foundation that unifies the company on a single database and we have gained efficiencies from having a common set of business processes supported by a single IS applications infrastructure.''
