Elbit wins Lockheed contract Monday May 4, 8:48 am Eastern Time Elbit wins Lockheed contract TEL AVIV, May 4 (Reuters) - Israel's Elbit Systems Ltd (ESLT.TA) (ESLTF - news) said on Monday its Vision Systems International (VSI) subsidiary had won a contract from Lockheed Martin Aeronautical Systems Co for the U.S. Air Force. The contract is for the integration of the Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System (JHMCS) into the U.S. Air Force's F-22 fighter aircraft. The system, which provides visual information to the pilot based on the position and orientation of his or her head, is being developed by VSI under a separate contract for the U.S. Air Force's F-15, F-16 and F-18 aircraft. Elbit officials said they could not disclose the size of the Lockheed contract. But Elbit corporate secretary Arie Tal said full production could reach 4,000 systems between the various aircraft. ''This has a potential of hundreds of millions of dollars,'' he said. The JHMCS is on schedule for its first flight in fourth-quarter 1998 and initial deliveries are to begin in 2000.
