It is sort of funny to see you speaking of day-trading options yet you take a longer view with the spoos.

Of course, options are for day-traders if it is to be speculative in nature.

For my own 2 cents (when did they stop putting the "cents" symbol on keyboards?) the high implied volatility in the pricing of the options is precisely what makes the EntreMed options tradable. Few day-trade GE options, for example, because the implied vol. is so small there is little room for fast profit.

Good luck in your foray. As for me; I decided to stick with what gives me the most success and bail out of the S&Ps .... not holding overnight.
