Intel reiterates sees earnings up in H2

JOHANNESBURG, May 4 (Reuters) - Intel Corp, the world's largest computer chip manufacturer, on Monday repeated its forecast that earnings would bottom out in the second quarter and then pick up.

''We see no change to our on-the-record comment that the second quarter would be the trough and that we expect a pickup in the second half,'' said president and chief operating officer Craig Barrett.

Barrett, in Johannesburg for the Africa Telekom '98 fair, was addressing investment analysts on the buoyant outlook for world computer markets going forward into the next century.

Intel last month reported basic earnings per share down to $0.78 from $1.21 a year previously on net income of $1.3 billlion, down from $2.0 billion.
