I'm surprised on your take on Primestar, Goodboy, especially since the FCC asked for and got a promise by Primestar to drop plans for a high-power launch. What's more, the FCC just extended Tempo's (TSAT's satellite slot) license at 119 for 60 days pending review, but with the caveat that they were expressly forbidden from leasing the slot to Primestar.

The issue is that the FCC (and the rest of the gov't.) wants cable competition, and sees Primestar as a company content to remain in the rural areas.

Finally, I'd like to dispute your subscriber numbers. Primestar only has about 2.1 million DBS subscribers. They did just acquire about 800,000 C band subscribers from United Video, and they do intend to try to maket them for Primestar, but I think that plan smacks of just the kind of heavy-handed cable company action that keeps getting them into trouble. Time will tell...

Regards,

Noel
