Ann, here are some RAM prices. Note the terminology ( SIMM, 30 pin, 72 pin, EDO, 70ns, TIN, gold plated, ECC, FPM etc.)

Somewhere in your users manual (do you have one?) there will be a RAM spec that includes terminology as noted above. You will need this to buy RAM. If you do not have the manual the info will be available somewhere. Using the NECX site as an example ( I am not recommending that you buy mail order ) the RAM you need will probably be something like the PNY 4MB 30 pin SIMM 70NS 4x9 TIN for $19.95. You would need two of them as SIMMs are replaced in pairs.

Here is another site for price comparison, again note the terminology.

They have 4MB RAM modules for $9 but you need the specifics first.

You probably should do something about that harddrive. Click on my computer and then right click on the C drive and check properties. It will show you how much space is available. You are probably maxing out your machine. Your swap file is probably constantly resizing itself looking for space. RAM will help but you need working space on the harddrive. You can probably find some files to delete, empty the recycle bin, reduce cache sizes etc. Adding another harddrive is not too difficult nor expensive if you cannot find a way to make more space.

There is no guarantee that increasing the RAM will allow kristi to skate.
