Tom,
<< Yes but, taken in context, QNTM partially falls into that group as well...as I remember it, they are a long ways from supplying all of their own heads internally. I'm going to have to go check on that.>>

The more I think about it the more I think you are right on. QNTM has actually sold majority interest in Rocky Mountain Magnetics to its manufacturing partner MKE so it really is a misnomer to call them a vertical integrator which I mistakingly implied. The misnomer is made all the more so by their lack of success with the MR process so far. So IBM has the number 3 and number 4 head customers in terms of unit volume. And you are quite right to point out that if they captured business with QNTM it would surround Seagate. But don't look for that to happen IMO. WDC and QNTM are arch competitors in the desktop arena and the nature of the IBM/WDC agreement would cause QNTM to look at a deal with IBM with a particularly jaundiced eye IMO. I would say that you should look for MKE and Quantum to shore up relations with TDK, and Yamaha while trying to nurture RDRT. Seagate must still perform on MR/GMR even though they have also established relations with TDK/SAE.

Hope you get your bounce.

best,
Stitch
