Verity is well positioned and has the right technology, Topic is spreading to everything from Lotus Notes (7Mil seats) to Netscape to CISCO CD-ROM's, and they have the tools avaliable NOW to search enable a multitude of applications. Fulcrum/MSFT have a lot of work to do to catch up, if ever.
......... Topic Developer*s Kit 2.1 is Now Available!
In today's market a successful application must have the ability to search, navigate and categorize information in your own language. Topic Developer's Kit has opened new doors to the world. With Verity's new version of our TDK, version 2.1, developers can quickly and easily integrate the Topic engine with their existing solutions and development environment using a simple, yet powerful application program interface (API). The TDK is Verity's core technology that we have had for years, but now we have the ability to localize our product to any locale in the world!
CORE FUNCTIONS: This search engine performs the following core functions:
Indexing: Creates indices of textual documents that allow extremely fast searches Querying: Provides a powerful query language that allows users to accurately define search parameters Results Processing: Presents the results of a search in an easy-to-understand manner by categorizing, ranking, sorting, and highlighting documents. Profiling: Supports the streaming of a document in real-time past a set of queries. This allows non-indexed searching, which is very useful for real-time data sources such as news feeds.
FEATURES AND BENEFITS:
Modular architecture: TDK 2.1's new segmented stream architecture allows developers to add new components to supplement the core functionality provided by Verity. TDK 2.1's architecture extends the power of Verity's search to any document, regardless of format, language, or storage location. Clustering: Automatically organizes documents returned by a search into clusters based on common themes. This allows the user to quickly identify relevant groupings of documents without having to individually examine every one of them. Summarization: Automatically generates summaries using the most significant sentences in the document. This allows the user to determine the relevance of a document much more quickly than traditional summaries, which display only the title or the first n lines. Query By Example: Allows documents or natural language to be fed back into the query process. This enables users to refine queries by using examples of relevant documents. Typographic error compensation: Expands query terms to allow for spelling or OCR errors. Users can now retrieve documents in which the search terms have been spelled or scanned incorrectly. SGML and HTML support: SGML and HTML documents contain tags with mark-up information such as zones and attributes. Users can now retrieve documents using attribute information as well as zones. Higher performance: Users and system administrators will now experience faster response times for searching and indexing with TDK 2.1 Developer's Kit performance optimizations.
International Language Support: TDK 2.1 is now fully internationalized and supports 11 languages "out of the box". Additional languages are available from Verity's partners, allowing full text search of documents in multiple languages. With multi-byte support, we have the ability to localize our product to any locale in the world!
The locales that Verity has developed are French and German. Verity's partners have are developing Arabic, Czech, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. The partial locales that we have done in partnership with a company called Inso are Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish.
