Faroudja's New Line of Digital Format Translators Powered by
GateField's ProASIC Technology

FREMONT, Calif., May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- GateField(TM) Corporation today announced that the Digital Format Translator(TM), recently introduced by Faroudja Laboratories, Inc., is using seven of GateField's flash-based, high- density reprogrammable ProASIC(TM) devices. The new addition to Faroudja's Video Solutions(TM) product line was
demonstrated in April at the 1998 NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) convention in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Digital Format Translator incorporates many of Faroudja's patented core technologies, such as a broadcast decoder, noise reducer, de-interlacer, scaler and video enhancer. A hardware implementation of such functions requires high gate count and high performance programmable logic devices that -- combined in a system -- are able to support the high system frequencies needed to process high resolution progressive and interlaced video formats.
