*AV*--This just in also. Apparently the news of the IBM/WD letter of intent for GMR technology has gotten a few people into a tizzy over the viability of all the TFH/MR suppliers. With SEG having an internal function for drive heads and IBM being the lead sled dog for the GMR heads, there is serious concern that either APM or RDRT may fall by the wayside in some sort of industry consolidation. The consensus is that one of them folds up rather than a merger with another company.
I do not think it is that bleak but if the #1, #2, and #3 disk drive manufacturers are using IBM or internal resources for their head assemblies, it wiull be tough times for RDRT and APM. Rumor has it that QNTM might be internalizing some of its head assemblies.

I would appreciate any inputs anyone might have on this subject.
