Here's some more bad news for the bears; (and yes, Jim, it does come from another confidential source who will remain nameless)
The Los Angeles office recently obtained a new VP/GM and since his arrival, the office has exploded. It has gone from about the lowest producing office in the company to currently third best producing office. Line sales have increased fron 1200 per month to 3000 per month. Installed rate has increasd from about 1000 to 2400 lines per month.
All selling is directed at putting lines on the switch(as directed by Nate, 3 or 4 months ago)----The only resold lines are the ones that are needed, for example, to complete a sale for a company with multiple locations where LOS is not available.
And something I find very hard to believe; I'm told that LA is 75 to 80% on-net lines!!!--reportedly the highest in the company---no other branch is even close---
The number of lines connected thru the switch has increased 1000% in the last 5 months!!!
And now for some not so good news (I'm only reporting this for Jim's sake and so that maybe WinStar management reading this can correct it);
The real estate people, seeking roof rights, the sales people, selling lines, and the "back office" people, lighting the buildings, all report to different lines of command, and there is apparently no one coordinating all their efforts in a geographical area. Consequently, the real estate people are on a mission of signing up ANY roof ,so their numbers look good. The back office guys are busy lighting buildings that are bad buildings for sales, so that their numbers look good, and up until the last 5 months, sales were selling ANY resale to make their numbers look good (but no more, all sales are to the switch). Apparently a very frustrating situation for all involved.
A recent example--the real estate guys got the roof rights to the LA Times building, a 2 year lease---The only problem is that this building has only 1 tenent, the LA Times---BUT the LA Times has a 5 year contract with their current line provider !!!!!!
