Hi Linda,

I think you are suffering from system migration, not computer migration. 8.1 is incredible, but it does not work with every extension and library that worked with 7.x.

About G3 apps quitting:

This is not normal behavior. An interesting issue to examine how you moved your software over to the new machine. There are quite a few apps these days (terrible Windows influence) that really require an installer.

Netscape (including plugins), Acrobat, Eudora, MS Office 4.2.1 are all applications that really have to be "installed", they can't just be dragged over. Trying to keep track of all the necessary extensions, libraries, and preferences files is too much.

Ironically, MS Office 98 can be drag-copied, thanks to it's self-repairing facility. Once again, having pioneered a problem, MS wins glory for fixing it.

8.1 is extraordinarily stable, actually. The way I approach a new system is with a clean install, then re-installation of "problem applications" (mentioned above). I then copy over the remainder.

*never* bulk copy over extensions and control panels from an old system. These are things you need to copy over slowly, so that if there is a problem with one of them and the new system, you'll know immediately.
