[InternetWeek GE survey results-5/4/98]
Below are the results of survey of 202 respondents of InternetWeek readers who have authority for Ethernet purchasing. Small and essentially biased sample may effect validity and reliability of results; but I still find results interesting.
A) Enterprise size: 11% >1000 users, 40% between 100 and 1000 users, 49% ,100 users. (Looks good for MRVC that small users are thinking about GE)
B) Deployment of GE: Currently using-2%, next 6 months-6%, next 12 months-15%, next 18 months-15%, next 24 months-14% (52% to employ in next 24 months), >24 months 38%, never-7%, and don't know-3%. (Greater interest in GE than earlier polls as I recall).
C) IT Budgets: 12% of IT budgets devoted to new Ethernet purchases, Average 9% budget is for maintaing/upgrading installed Ethernet base (MRVC maintenance contracts should benefit), 45% of respondents said the portion of the total budget devoted to Ethernet is increasing (maybe Y2K issue not impacting GE employment as much as previously suggested).
D) Enterprise users view of future non-ethernet (token ring, ATM), FDDI, etc.) technologies: Continue to support users: build up that part of network-30% (MRVC ok there), support users, but limit further capital investments-18% (good for MRVC), phase out over time-31% (GO FORE+INTC), don't know-18%, and n/a-3%.
