The cable industry is united in favoring a market solution to the question of whether cable operators must pass through all broadcast video formats to their customers, including 1,080-line interlaced. Some industry officials even challenged the legality of must-carry regulations, arguing that consumer demand would force cable firms to carry most broadcast channels without a government fiat.
