All the bear talk here notwithstanding, Reuters said the bond
placement was viewed as a positive (by a source close to the deal,
who would of course take that view):

Most junk players were more interested in the successful
junk bond debut of Internet bookseller Amazon.com Inc. <AMZN.O>
via Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, sources said.
The young company sold $325 million in senior discount
notes (Caa2), upsizing the deal by $50 million in response to
strong investor demand.
"This is a vote of confidence that this company's strategy
will work," said a source close to the deal. "Its results tell
it all -- it's the fastest growing retailer in history."
In another sign of strong demand, the notes were priced on
the inside of price talk to yield 10 percent, sources noted.
