Gary re: long range weather forecast for Saskatchewan. I'm sorry I don't have an answer other than I watch the US commodity markets and outlook and there has been some upward price pressure recently on the basis that past history tells us that summers following El NINO tend to be drier than normal. Will history repeat itself? Your guess is as good as mine. No question this spring in most parts of Sask is drier than last year, but I would guess not significantly below the long term average. In terms of impact on Sask Wheat Pool, its still too early to call, however a below average crop would hurt all grain company profits including the Pool. I have sold 80% of my position in SWP at $21-$22 over the past 8 weeks- I see further pressure over the next 3 mths until we get a better handle on crop prospects and total production in the prairies.
Lets hope for the best! I'm a farmer too!!
