dug-

lawsuits? in the electronics industry? perish the thought<G>.

long story below-- click through if you dont want to read--

yeah, i suppose i will get my wish. of course, i now have to wonder how much these people will clog up the network.the mom and dad part is actually from personal experience. i bought my father a K6 clone system last year when the chips were finally available (i am not saying how much i paid, but you can now get basically the same machine for less than 1k. when my father found this out recently (thanks best buy!) he called very upset to tell me that he was never going to buy another computer. less than a month later, he bought a P2 from GTW, which i informed him was several hundred dollars cheaper at best buy. the homer simpson thing he did was kind of funny at least) and the store installed a digital camera with it. guess which port they used? thats right, com 2. of course, they forgot to put in the modem. so, after i left town he decided to install it himself. the last time my father actually learned the ins and outs on one of his computers was in the EARLY 80s, and it was a trash 3 i think. of course, even if he had known he needed to change the jumpers, the instructions were not in the box. a 50 y/o man shouting at me via phone is not my idea of a pleasent evening.

oh, but thats not the end...oh no...dads unnatural turn at DIY peripheral installation having reached its inevitable and frustrating conclusion, he called the guy who normally works on his computers to come in and install the damn thing. luckily HE had specs for the modem. unluckily, the modem didnt work (thanks USRX). as we draw to the close, we find our the frustrated computer guy installing a phoebe modem. as a side note, if you have never used phoebe products, i suggest you try them. they work perfectly. if only they would clone win 95, maybe it too would work well.

sorry about the long story, and i know its a little whacked, but this stuff happens. lets just hope that WSTLs modems ARE easy to install.
or that maybe they hook up with phoebe<G>.

good luck to all, and sorry for the really long story,
trey
