As Jos‚ fearfully began to tell Se¤or Germond more about the Chupacabras, the rain forest air seemed to become still, and the heat oppressive. The large crocodile lay in the water staring at them while slowly sweeping its tail from side to side. All at once there was more rustling in the bushes. Even Jack, who was not usually given to flights of fancy, started slightly at this sound.

Suddenly a dashing figure clad in khaki pleat-front cotton pants and windbreaker, wearing a large-brimmed fedora, and carrying a long leather bullwhip, burst forth from the bushes.

"Aye-Yay!!!" shrieked Jos‚, "It is the legendary Chemo "Jones" Soto, Mayor of Can¢vanas and part-time adventurer!!"

"Si!...It is I!! The world famous Chupacabras hunter from Puerto Rico!!!" beamed the narcissitic Chemo "Jones" Soto as he uncoiled his bullwhip and gave it a great "crack" that sent birds and other wildlife screaming up into the sky or onto higher treebranches in fright.

Jack stifled the natural impulse to ROTFL at this ridiculous display of bravado... while nearby, the great crocodile appeared to roll its luminous golden eyes in disbelief.....
