Globe says Walshes must live on $3,000 a week

Bre-X Minerals Ltd BXMShares issued 2191033301997-05-07 close $0.09Wednesday May 6 1998The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday, May 6, edition that David Walsh and his wife Jeanette will have to get by on $3,000 (U.S.) a week. The Globe's Brent Jang writes that that's the allowance set for the couple by a Bahamian court. The allowance is part of an injunction issued by the Bahamian Supreme Court last week that freezes the Walshes' assets and forces them to disclose all their financial holdings. The injunction was requested by Deloitte & Touche, the bankruptcy trustee for Bre-X Minerals. Deloitte wants the assets frozen pending the outcome of a lawsuit it has filed in Canada against the Walshes and other former company officials. The injunction says the Walshes can use the $3,000 (U.S.) weekly allowance for "ordinary living expenses." They can also spend a "reasonable" amount on lawyers. Before spending any money, the Walshes must tell Deloitte's lawyers "where the money is to come from," the court ordered. The couple can appeal the injunction.
