FOCUS Enhancements' FS300 Digital Video Co-Processor To Be Incorporated in Samsung Large Screen TVs
SUDBURY, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 6, 1998--FOCUS Enhancements, Inc. (NASDAQ:FCSE - news, FCSEW - news) announced today that it is now shipping its proprietary TView FS300(TM) digital video co-processor to Samsung for integration into its large screen televisions. The Samsung agreement will make it possible for even more users to experience bright, flicker-free multimedia presentations, academic lessons, training sessions, and internet viewing on large screen televisions.

The FS300 is a digital video chip technology that successfully addresses the pricing and quality concerns of the PC-to-TV market by dramatically improving resolution and performance while lowering overall costs. Through integration into a single chip of both digital and analog processing, the FS300 is currently the most flexible PC-to-TV video convergence chip and has the lowest total solution cost of any other video co-processor on the market today. It works with TVs, PCs, and set-top boxes to display computer images without any additional software drivers or external circuitry. It is the only PC-to-TV technology which does not require software to be VGA chip-independent, thus making integration of FOCUS technology easier and more cost-effective than other PC-to-TV products. The FS300 is a true plug-and-play solution with support for all Windows 3.1x, Windows 95, DOS, and Macintosh software.

The FS300 accommodates refresh rates up to 90Hz, as opposed to other PC-to-TV products which can only support 60Hz, and is the only PC-to-TV encoder to support resolutions of 640x480, 800x600, and 1024x768. It provides underscaling, compression, and visibility at levels exceeding all other PC-to-TV devices on the market today, and allows users to precisely fit any image to any TV screen, including the new 16x9 widescreen formats, without dropping lines of video data or sacrificing picture clarity.

In addition to integration of the FS300 chip by Samsung, Philips, and other PC-to-TV product developers, FOCUS Enhancements is currently integrating its proprietary TView FS300 NTSC/PAL digital video co-processor technology into all of its PC-to-TV set top boxes and video devices.
