Siemens Unveils Next-Generation Telephony-Over-LAN
Technology; Companies Can Utilize Existing Local Area
Network for Data, Voice, and Video Communications
04:09 p.m May 05, 1998 Eastern

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 5, 1998--Siemens Business
Communication Systems today revealed its next-generation, telephony over LAN
prototype, the HiNet RC 3000, a real-time multimedia communication application.

This is the first time that Siemens is demonstrating this technology that enables
customers to utilize one networking infrastructure for data, voice and video
applications over existing data networking infrastructures such as Ethernet/Fast
Ethernet.

The HiNet RC 3000 is the first step in a complete strategy to
deliver a portfolio of "HiNet" brand solutions that will leverage
advanced IP technology and assure Quality of Service. Siemens will
sell the HiNet family of products that are the result of last year's
joint marketing and sales initiative between Siemens and 3Com to
drive the voice/data convergence market with cutting-edge technology
and integrated voice and data solutions. 3Com will also demonstrate
the HiNet RC 3000 at its booth at the Networld+Interop trade show.
