This reminds me of Deitrich Bonhoffer's comments concerning the Nazi's "...and then they come for you". This whole thing is a blatant grab for private money and power. Do you think the government is really concerned about public health when they punish the cigarette industry by taxing smokers? Do you think they are worried about the good of the economy when they try and forestall Win 98?

If the government were as righteous as they pretend to be they would ban cigarettes and not derive revenues from it ( of course then they would lose all that $ to the mafia). If they were so concerned about the balance of power vis-a-vis operating systems they would buy more Macs and Unix machines. These guys are just brutes trying to push their way into yet another area of our lives ( kicking down the economic doors of private industry) where they are neither wanted and where they do not add one scintilla of value to the industry or to our lives.
