Dell, Cisco, U S West to Roll Out Computers With Digital Modems Round Rock, Texas, May 6 (Bloomberg) -- Dell Computer Corp., Cisco Systems Inc., and U S West Communications Group are expected to announce today plans to produce personal computers with high-speed digital modems that will work using regular copper phone wires, the on-line edition of the Wall Street Journal reported, citing no sources. The companies said the new PCs, which will allow users to send and receive information much faster that conventional modems, will be available in some U S West markets this fall. Dell said it will make Cisco's asymmetric digital subscriber line, or ASDL, modems available in its Dimension XPS personal computers, the paper reported.
On May 4, U S West introduced high-speed Internet access in Denver and Boise, Idaho, in the phone company's first move to make the service available in 40 cities by midyear. o~~~ O |
